Configuration Tools

The configuration tool mailing list is fedora-config-list.

The goal of the configuration tools project is to provide easy to use interfaces for common system tasks. All of the configuration tools have graphical user interfaces and some have text and command line interfaces as well.

The configuration tools are written with the following development tools:

• Python2.2 - for general development
• PyGtk2 - for the graphical user interfaces
• Newt - for the text user interfaces
• Kudzu - for hardware detection

Here is a list of tools that would be useful but do not exist yet:

• Partitioning - must handle RAID and LVM setup
• System task scheduler - for configuring cron and at
• Firewall - configuration tool for IP Tables (something more finegrained than redhat-config-securitylevel)
• DHCP server - for setting up a DHCP server
• NIS server - for setting up an NIS server
